⁶ So Demetrius gave Jonathan the authority to raise an army and to procure arms and to designate himself as an ally; and he also ordered the hostages in the citadel to be released to him. ⁷ Thereupon Jonathan went to Jerusalem and read the letter to all the people and to those in the citadel. ⁸ They were all greatly frightened when they heard that the king had given him authority to raise an army.
